Arc Flash

PREMIER SOUTH ELECTRICAL

Arc Flash

The latest figures report over 2000 electrical injuries resulting in days away from work, and over 100 electrically related fatalities in the workplace each year. ¹ Some of these incidents are caused by a sudden arc flash.

An arc flash is an event where electrical current leaves its intended path and travels through ionized air from one conductor to another; this phenomenon is called a flashover. The results are often violent and can result in severe injury or even death.

A Premier South Electrical arc flash study can protect your qualified workers and contractors should an arc flash incident occur within your facility. Arc flash assessments also help protect your personnel, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify deficiencies within the electrical system.

PSE Arc Flash Study Objectives:

  • Protect personnel from known hazards as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) employer general duties clause - SEC. 5. Duties (a)(1)
  • Reduce arc flash and fire risk
  • Identify potential for improvements within the electrical system
  • Ensure compliance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and National Electrical Code (NEC)

PSE Arc Flash Study Process and Deliverables:

  • Perform on-site data collection of the electrical system
  • Determine available short circuit current and evaluate for all included equipment
  • Calculate the worst-case incident energy at the specific working distance, for proper PPE selection in accordance with NFPA 70E
  • Determine the arc flash boundaries
  • Print labels and apply them to all evaluated equipment
  • Generate a one-line diagram of the equipment evaluated in the study
  • Complete a coordination study
  • Make recommendations to reduce incident energy or correct coordination issues

We value the needs of our customers and the importance of their safety. Our team is committed to delivering quality service while following all safety standards.

Our field staff is both OSHA and NFPA 70E trained, protecting life and property when inspecting and accessing your electrical system. In turn, we provide you with a streamlined arc flash study with no disruptions to you or your facility operations.
